The Power of Women campaign is born from a statistic; “A recent survey of the permanent collections of 18 prominent U.S. art museums found that the represented artists are 87% male and 85% white.” (“Diversity of artists in Major U.S. Museums,” Public Library of Science). This disparity of representation is appalling, and drove the halftone visuals and covering of faces that creates the mood. This campaigns aim is to bring to light The National Museum of Women in the Arts, which has an amazing collection of art made by women.
The name, The Power of women, comes from a movement in sixteenth century art, where women are portrayed in positions of power over men. An example would be Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi
